Abhimaan...

I finished watching Abhimaan few minutes ago.I just loved this movie. Amitabh and Jaya share an envious chemistry in the movie and justifies the movie. Hrishikesh Da is director par excellence and Abhimaan is a beautiful story. In brief, Amitabh Bachchan is a popular singer who falls for and marries a young and talented girl who sings beautifully. Post marriage, she finds her own success as a singer and soon surpasses his own. And that's when the problems begin. These problems are called envy, pride, ego (or hurt thereof), anger, and the destructive results of such feelings.

Jaya Bachchan's performance is stupendous. Jaya is completely amazing especially in the last 30 minutes. Jaya Bhaduri's subtle but comprehensive performance in this film is wonderful - for me, she is the star of this movie - the way she expresses herself with her eyes is powerful. Amitabh Bachchan supports her excellently with a nuanced and understated portrayal of his tragic character. Asrani is good too.

It has the perfect songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar. "Nadiya Ki Nare", "Ab Tho Hai Tumse", and "Piya Bina" being my favorites. There are nice duets, "Teri Bindiya Re" sung by Lata and Rafi, and "Tere Mere Milan Ki" by Lata and Kishore Kumar. There is also Kishore Kumar's trendy "Meet Na Mila", which will surely entertain a movie watcher as well as a music lover. An excellent soundtrack by S.D. Burman.

Abhimaan is a fine movie of 1973, and the way it was made, treated by the filmmaker and acted, makes it a must-watch for every cine-goer. It is only two hours long, an exception in Hindi cinema and as expected by a great director like Mukherjee, whose films are always realistic and balanced, never goes overboard.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee was one of the best directors around that time, and this is one of his gems and a milestone in Indian cinema. This is a movie that people won't get tired watching even half a century after it was been made, because the issues that Hrishikesh Da tackled in his movies were very a part of an Indian middle-class society and they still do prevail.

Maine Pyar Kiya...

Sooraj Barjatya’s eternal romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya released way back in December 1989. And a mega superstar , Salman khan of Hindi Cinema was born with this classic movie. I saw this movie when I was very young and Salman became my favourite actor. I like him till today. The innocence which I saw in 1989 is still visible on his face. Suman, a girl every Mom wants. Her innocence can be best described by this quote "Innocence is thought charming because it offers delightful possibilities for exploitation".

‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is a love story of a Prem and Suman. Their love doesn't have any boundaries of money. Suman, the daughter of Prem’s father’s friend, comes to stay at Prem’s house, while Suman’s father goes abroad.Suman and Prem fall in love, but their love is not accepted by Prem’s father and he asks Prem to leave the house. Suman’s father too refuses to allow Suman to meet Prem and puts a condition that he should earn Rs. 2000 a month, if he wants to marry his daughter. Prem works hard as a labourer and manages to earn the amount which melts Suman’s father’s heart. And finally with many twist and turns Love unites in the end.

It was a blockbuster movie and people like many of the scene and act many of the dialogues till today.
"Ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost nahin hote" is one among the famous dialogue.I can never forget that "Abhi mood nahin hai (one-armed pushups!!)" scene.Hmmm very romantic.
One newly addition to the film was The Antakshari song, a medley of old hindi songs was never seen before. And many new films of today are copying it.

Music of “Maine Pyar Kiya”were mesmerizing. They were sung by S.P.Balasubramanium and Lata Mangeshkar. Ram-Laxman directed the music. The opening track, "Aate Jaate" had an exceptional concept while whistling and humming in "Aaya Mausam Dosti Ka" increased its beauty.“Dil Deewana” and “Kabootar Ja Ja” and vastly popular.

Sooraj Barjatya’s one of the best and favourite director made a film of whole different era, a completely different sensibility, a VERY different Salman, a completely innocent and untainted view of love. After watching this movie you feel Love is so pure.Such Love stories makes the world a very innocent and noble place to live.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

I  saw "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" again yesterday.Loved this movie SO much! No matter how many times I watch it, it NEVER gets old! Loved Ranbir-Deepika's chemistry it was just too good!YJHD is love story of today's generation.

The film shows the journey of two different worlds of Naina (Deepika Padukone) and Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor). Naina is a simple and hard-working girl while Bunny is a merry go round boy for whom life is all about being crazy.Perfect movie with perfect cast! simply mesmerizing!

On one side it was the successful reunion of Ranbir Kapoor and young talented, director Ayan Mukerji, after WAKE UP SID, but it was more in the news for its lead stars, real life ex-couple, Ranbir-Deepika, were back together on the big screen. This was the second film of the two actors together. Their first film together was Bachana Ae Haseeno, which was released in 2008, when the two were dating. Later, they called it quits in 2009. Reports were ripe that the increasing closeness of Katrina Kaif with Ranbir was the main reason behind this breakup, but they two actors remained tight lipped about the same.
But we see Deepika & Ranbir successfully buried their hatchet and gave their fullest to this project.

While ‘YJHD’ is a very normal movie based on bollywood formulae but it is got enriched with Ayan’s narrative’s style and flair.

On music front,Badtameez Dil reminds you of some earlier compositions but the energy in the song keeps you hooked. Balam Pichkari is sureshot chartbuster.Kabira is an absolute gem everything was perfect.

Faaroq Sheikh is a genius who gives the best moment in his 5 min role. All the four actors-Ranbir, Deepika, Kalki and Aditya Roy Kapoor perform fabulously. Kalki did a good job.Infact she was great in her role. Aditya Roy Kapoor played his part rather well.Ranbir Kapoor acted quite fine. This role doesn’t need any superlative acting and hence his acting is quite regular but fortunately for him fits the character. Deepika Padukone is the best of the lot for me. Her performance in the final minutes is also applause worthy.

Ayan Mukherjee has made a fine film. He tell us how jawaani is deewani but when it reaches its peak then it should get formalised with the responsibilities.
