Sulakshana Pandit.....Does love destroys life?

Once Victor Hugo said "Love has no middle term; either it destroys, or it saves.".This quote suits the very charming singer and actress Sulakshana Pandit. Her serenity lent to the songs are commendable. This isn't a surprise as she comes from a musical family with Pandit Jasraj as her uncle.First singer-actress after Noor Jehan and Suraiya.

She is unparalleled in “tu  hi sagar hai’ of Sankalp in 1975 for which she got Filmfare and Miyan Tansen award. As an actor she did movies like Apnapan, Hera pheri, Uljhan, Sankoj ,Raaj, Salakhein, Dharam kanta, Gora, Do waqt ki roti, Kala suraj, Bundaal baaz, Thief of Baghdad and Khandan. She sang in Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi and Oriya movies. She took part in live concerts along with the legends – Mohd.Rafi and Kishore Kumar.
She also played the lead opposite the top-most stars of the 1970s including Jeetendra (Khandaan, Sankoch) and Sanjeev Kumar (Uljhan).

Her début movie was the suspense thriller Uljhan in 1975 opposite Sanjeev Kumar. She has acted in a Bengali movie opposite super star Utham Kumar.

She madly fell in love with Sanjeev Kumar during the shooting of  film Uljhan (1975). But Sanjeev Kumar loved (Hema Malini). They worked in a lot of films — Waqt Ki Deewar, Chehre Pe Chehra, Uljhan, Apnapan. They acted in seven films altogether. Sanjeev kumar was addicted to drinking which led to his death in 1985.After Sanjeevji died, she went into acute depression. She has not yet recovered totally. She has locked the connecting door of her room and outside world. She will be in her room whole day and watch beautiful films, listen to beautiful music and write poetry.Spurned in love, Sulakshana's world became empty. She lost all her money and fame. Worst of all, the siblings whom she mothered into success refused to support her, rendering her emotionally robbed of and homeless.

At times Love becomes too much overrated, commercialized, and way too unpredictable. "Love isn't something you feel. It's something you commit to." We all are "emotional creatures", and are always in search of an emotional fix. So we should stop being a victim, get out of victim mentality, take steps towards you own maturity, self-development, and self-respect. There are no victims, only volunteers.
