Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

While having tea today in evening I heard "Mere Khwabon Mein" song.It immediately struck me about DDLJ movie .Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge - Come Fall in Love("Again"). It was Aditya Chopra's debut film as a director. This film remains an iconic Bollywood love story even today. Those were the days...I don't know if they would ever do romance like this on the big screen ever again!

The story revolves around Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) a rich Londoner, who wishes to go to Europe for a month's vacation and Simran (Kajol), also from London, does the same. After Raj and Simran play jokes on each other, Raj finally makes her miss her train and they are stuck alone in the mountains of Europe. By the time they both come back, the both fall in love with each other. But Simran's marriage has been arranged with another person in India, Kamaljeet (Parmeet Sethi). The movie depicts the struggle of Raj to win Simran from her father, Chaudhry Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri).

I remember terrific performances from Kajol, Shahrukh, and the supporting cast. Anupam’s comical and affectionate acting, Amrish’s stern, forbidding and yet a loving father touches heart. Mandira Bedi is very sweet as the girl in India who falls for Shahrukh. Farida potrays a caring mother role very convincingly and gives a memorable turn.

The music was uniformly wonderful with the centrepiece being Tujhe Dekha a beautiful and haunting tune  in which Kajol and Shahrukh admit their feelings for one another. Other standouts are Mere Khwabon Mein with Kajol .Much of the choreography though is surprisingly not extraordinary and only the lively Mehndi Lagake really hits home with its call and response scenario between the men and the women at the engagement party.

Aditya Chopra has balanced his film well and delivered a memorable film. He has filled the film with several memorable scenes, like Raj's meetings with Simran's father and the climax which throws in a little action to the mix. A superlative feather in the Chopra's enviable cap!

The film won National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film is so good one can see as it has been running for 17 years, released in 1995 and is still running at Maratha Mandir in South Mumbai. The owner of maratha Mandir says the hall has screened DDLJ for the past 10 years, plans to let it stay for another 100 weeks. He says that inspite of running for a decade, the movie still pulls in crowds and creates bouts of optimism and romance.

DDLJ out-stand all the flaws, and by all means is a masterpiece.I loved the songs, the background music and guitar sound which made this movie more perfect. There were no plot holes and it make you stick throughout the movies. DDLJ had those typical ingredients to get popular among masses and achieve cult status. It has a more gripping love story everseen before.

An international record breaker : "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge".It is voted as the favourite indian film of the past 100 years.

2 States..A Story of making Love an Arranged Marriage...

"2 States" the Story of Most of Indians who do inter-caste/interstate marriage. Its an acquaintance most talked about and deserve a watch. Its an book-adapted movie (a book by Chetan Bhagat).

The movie is directed by Abhishek Varman. Its a story about a MBA couple who were from different states and different brought-ups.They fell in love and wanted to have an love come arrange marriage where everyone is happy. The movie is the journey of how these young lads convince their parents to have their magical union with everyone consent.

Arjun Kapoor's  performance was very realistic and superb. It was nice to see Arjun playing a different role proving everyone who doubted his ability to portray Krish.

Alia's pretty face, in saris and suits, grabs attention but it would have been better if any Tamil actress would have been taken to add gold standard in regional sensitivity & mass stereotyping.

Ronit was consistent in his demeanor all through, no over-acting like the main characters including his wife, and actually made the audience empathize with him, well done RR!

Revathi as Ananya's graceful Tamil mother is also outstanding and her music performance was totally heart stealing.
Amrita was hilarious. The punches were funny though I read most of them in the book, but still it was very nice to revisit the book.

Mast Magan has a slight Sufi touch though it is inherently a Bollywood number.Overall an entertaining movie.

In 1950’s and 1960’s among the couples who had love marriages, 90% of those love marriages had failed. So many parents don't support love marriage. Of course now in present times, this has changed for better and we see many love marriages are working fine.

I too had a love marriage and a very successful one touch-wood. According to me in our society, marriages which are inter-caste, inter-religion or totally from different culture seems to be going on rocks and are living happily right from beginning because couple have total faith in each other and both are very flexible and adjust their behavior so as to take care of other partner even if it means a sacrifice. And when family members see this, they also start supporting such couples even though the family members may have opposed such marriages to begin with. And once you get support from other family members, the foundation of marriage becomes solid. And such marriages succeed totally.

A parent support is required totally for anything we do then our marriage which is a completely new phase of our life. How can it be successful without the blessing of our parents who brought us in this world. The movie completely touches my heart and will be close to me.

Sulakshana Pandit.....Does love destroys life?

Once Victor Hugo said "Love has no middle term; either it destroys, or it saves.".This quote suits the very charming singer and actress Sulakshana Pandit. Her serenity lent to the songs are commendable. This isn't a surprise as she comes from a musical family with Pandit Jasraj as her uncle.First singer-actress after Noor Jehan and Suraiya.

She is unparalleled in “tu  hi sagar hai’ of Sankalp in 1975 for which she got Filmfare and Miyan Tansen award. As an actor she did movies like Apnapan, Hera pheri, Uljhan, Sankoj ,Raaj, Salakhein, Dharam kanta, Gora, Do waqt ki roti, Kala suraj, Bundaal baaz, Thief of Baghdad and Khandan. She sang in Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi and Oriya movies. She took part in live concerts along with the legends – Mohd.Rafi and Kishore Kumar.
She also played the lead opposite the top-most stars of the 1970s including Jeetendra (Khandaan, Sankoch) and Sanjeev Kumar (Uljhan).

Her début movie was the suspense thriller Uljhan in 1975 opposite Sanjeev Kumar. She has acted in a Bengali movie opposite super star Utham Kumar.

She madly fell in love with Sanjeev Kumar during the shooting of  film Uljhan (1975). But Sanjeev Kumar loved (Hema Malini). They worked in a lot of films — Waqt Ki Deewar, Chehre Pe Chehra, Uljhan, Apnapan. They acted in seven films altogether. Sanjeev kumar was addicted to drinking which led to his death in 1985.After Sanjeevji died, she went into acute depression. She has not yet recovered totally. She has locked the connecting door of her room and outside world. She will be in her room whole day and watch beautiful films, listen to beautiful music and write poetry.Spurned in love, Sulakshana's world became empty. She lost all her money and fame. Worst of all, the siblings whom she mothered into success refused to support her, rendering her emotionally robbed of and homeless.

At times Love becomes too much overrated, commercialized, and way too unpredictable. "Love isn't something you feel. It's something you commit to." We all are "emotional creatures", and are always in search of an emotional fix. So we should stop being a victim, get out of victim mentality, take steps towards you own maturity, self-development, and self-respect. There are no victims, only volunteers.

Abhi Na Jaao Chod Kar Ke Dil Abhi Bhara Nahin....The Magical Song

Abhi Na Jaao Chod Kar Ke Dil Abhi Bhara Nahin
Abhi Abhi To Aayi Hoo Abhi Abhi To
Abhi Abhi To Aayi Ho Bahar Banke Chhayi Ho
Hawa Zara Mahak To Le Nazar Jara Bahek To Le
Ye Shaam Dhal To Le Zara
Main Thorhi Der Jee Too Lun Nashe Ke Ghuunt Pi To Lun
Nash Eke Ghunt Pi To Lun Abhi To Kuchh Kuchh Kaha Nahin
Abhi To Kuchh Suna Nahin
Abhi Na Jaao Chod Kar Ke Dil Abhi Bhara Nahin

A most romantic , immortal & the best duet song which will enthrall the music lovers. A stylish Dev Anand imploring a terrific beauty Sadhana not to leave him as his heart is not yet filled with joy.

A very romantic song written by Sahir who was a romantic poet. This song is cast in separation mold as he had failed love relationships. His poem has amazing canvas of romantic shades. The poetry is conversational.
"Aaapke likhne ka andaz, bas ab mein kya kahoon..Bemisaal....Bemisaal."

Jaidev gave music for this fabulous piece. He is expert in classical and folk music.

In Sanskrit there is a saying "Na bhuto na bhavishyati" mean "There is no one like Rafi sahab in the past and there will be no one like him in the future".He can capture every mood and every nuance of songs. He had this unique talent of varying his voice to suit the persona of the star he was singing for. In Abhi na jao, he paints a picture of Dev Anand through his singing. While listening to this song, you can visualize Dev Anand’s drawl, his style and his mannerisms. This was the mastery of Rafi.

Asha has a dulcet vocals. She seduces you with her teasing ways. Her voice has intensity and lure. It is a  blend of silk, velvet and honey. Asha is renowned for getting into the mood of the song in a jiffy. She imports the song with what the poet wants to convey and what the scene demands and gives that something extra-the X-factor.

Nearly years after its release, I watched the song unblinkingly.

The sheer hard work of Sahir, Jaidev and above all Rafi Saab & Asha Bhonsale made this song indeed a magical piece.Thank you all of you for taking us on joyous ride of experiencing the romance in the form of song.

Dilip sahab....the ultimate method Actor

Dilip kumar whose real name is Yusuf Khan is one of the finest actor Indian Cinema can ever have. He is also known as The Tragedy King. He is a class personified — full of dignity who was born to a dry fruit merchant. He got chance in Bollywood with the help of Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai (owner of Bombay Talkies).

His first movie which came to floor was Bombay Talkies’ Jwar Bhata. It didn't do great at box office. He was basically recognized with his third film Milan released in 1946. After this his career spanned till 50 years with his last release Qila in 1998.

His all the work is masterpiece in itself but some which was appreciated by most of his fans were Andaz (1949) in which he worked with Raj Kapoor,
Bimal Roy's Devdas another memorable work by Dilip Sahab with Suchitra Sen and Vyjayanthimala,Naya Daur (1957) which got him commercial and critical success. This movie was also in news for director B.R. Chopra taking legal action against actress Madhubala for backing out from Naya Daur.Herbreakup with Dilip made compelled her to leave the movie. Love in olden days were pasionate isn't it??
Heart stealing performace which owed many applaudes was Prince Salim in Mughal-e-Azam (1960) which broke all records.
Ganga Jamuna was the first movie produced by him.

Ram Aur Shyam (1967) was another hit movie added to his pocket. After Bairaag in year 1976 this great legend took a long sabatical.

He did his comeback with Manoj Kumar's Kranti in 1981. He played Sanjay Dutt's father in Subash Ghai's Vidhaata and joined Amitabh Bachchan in Ramesh Sippy's Shakti winning the Filmfare Best Movie Award. He did Subash Ghai's Karma (1986).

The year 1991 saw Dilip Kumar in Saudagar with Rajkumar. He was seen again in Qila (1998) which is his last movie to date. He played a negative role.

Awards:
Dilip Kumar has been awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1994) and Nishan-e-Pakistan by the Pakistani Government in 1998. He entered politics in 2000 and was a Member of Parliament.

Dilip Kumar received the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Daag, Azaad, Devdas, Naya Daur, Kohinoor, Leader, Ram Aur Shyam and Shakti. He was the first actor who won the Filmfare Best Actor Award. He also had a record number of nominations and wins. He won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.
Personal Life:
On personal front Dilip Sahab's first fling was Kamini Kaushal from film Arzoo. Then came the beautiful, lively, giggly Madhubala with her million-dollar smile. But Madhu Mam's dad interference led to their breakup.

Finally Dilip Kumar got married at the age of 45 to filmstar Saira Banu.

Celebrity marriages are never a straight road it always has curves and holes. Dilip Kumar too got entangled in a controversial love affair plus marriage with Asma, a Pakistani lady. It does tarnished his image. But after learning that she is in touch with her ex-husband and is leaking out the news to the press they separated. And finally Saira and Dilip reconciled again.

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu doesn't have their own kid but their romance is endless. They still love and care for each other. Saira Banu has mentioned in one of her interviews that she fell in love with Dilip Kumar when she was 12 years old. Their age difference between Saira and Dilip is 22 years and was always a talk of town but the couple is in perfect harmony with each other and look blissfully happy with each other.

This is an enless story which can go on and on...i just tried to gather bits from here and there of his life and pay my heartly tribute.

One of the gem of Hindi cinema "Mere Mehboob"...

Hi Folks!!!

I just saw "Mere Mehboob" movie. After seeing that i felt we guys have become so much casual.Movie depicts so much of mannerisms and the culture of the contemporary Muslim society.I felt so refreshed with the Urdu poetry competition ,Rajendra kumar Sherwani and Sadhana Shivdasani burka.

Also there is a lovely tickling romance between the so handsome Ashok Kumar and pretty Nimmi.

The beauty and elegance of silent love will touch your heart. The story stresses on a person inner beauty not on his/her external beauty.Obstacles and misunderstandings are seasoned with funny-man Johnny Walker’s antics.

When you see this you will feel you need to see more ! The ambiance is of a time and culture which is difficult to find now—For people who live in history and romance will love this.

This movie was released in 1963.The scene where nawab sits around smoking his hookah gives so much lucknavi taste. Nawab house looks like some Mughal Palace.

After watching the movie you will not forget Husna and her flowing ghagras.I felt as if Anwar actually existed who speaks such eloquent Urdu.I loved the grace that was depicted in this movie. It was really an golden era which is now gone with the wind.

“I’d love to hear what you think about this article. Let me know in the comments.”
